Acron Ramps up Urea Output in Veliky Novgorod to 2,800 tpd

Acron continues Urea-1800 project to improve capacity at four production units commissioned in 1969-1970.

The capacity of Acron’s four urea units in Veliky Novgorod is now 1,800 tpd following an overhaul of four production units that were originally put on stream in 1969-1970. Investments in the project exceed RUB 500 million.

The upgrade included commissioning two 90-m3 high-pressure liquid ammonia centrifugal pumps, and assembling and commissioning two Аtlas Copco 18,000-Nm3/h centrifugal eight-stage carbon dioxide compressors. After replacing rotating equipment, the Company upgraded the synthesis and distillation shop by installing a set of internal equipment in the synthesis columns, replacing the gas bubbler heat exchangers in three synthesis units and assembling gas ammonia separators. The Company also replaced the carbamate decomposition unit at the first distillation stage to dramatically increase the efficiency of the synthesis and distillation units.

Acron put on stream its fifth urea unit with capacity of over 1,000 tpd in 2012. With the upgrades in place, the aggregate capacity of the five units will reach close to 3,000 tpd, and annual output will exceed a million tonnes.
